Peer Helpers
The Peer Helpers are a leadership group at Lakewood School.  They consist of twelve grade five and six students who can be recognized by their blue vests, when on duty.  Peer Helping is based on the fact that students most often seek out other students for help.  Peer Helpers have a training day at the beginning of the year facilitated by our school consellor, Mrs. Cooper.  Here they are taught listening, communication and empathy skills.  Some of the Peer Helpers activtities are: outside on Monday and Wednesday, school wide bulletin boards, writing and performing W.I.T.S. skits for primary students, sponsor for theme days and help with the Skip-a-thon for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  The Peer Helpers program is sponsored by Mrs. Penston.
